Nebulae in real life[]
Nebulae are extremely large in the actual universe. Some are large enough to span tens of dozens of star systems, and can be well over 50 Light Years long. It doesn't seem practical that a Nebula could fit inside a single solar system. At the very most, the this "Nebula" would be considered a small cloud of trace elements, and would be quickly absorbed into the gravity of nearby planets (If this were a system with planets, anyway). The Gaflar System, instead must be a loosely-tied Star Cluster, and the Nebula must be a "Birthing system" for stars. In-game, it might not appear bright enough to be a star cluster, but thick nebulae such as this Klar Nebula could definitely block out light from nearby stars.
But wait! You say that you read the article? You think it could be a Planetary nebula? Yes, it actually looks about right. But those are born of small supernovas. There would be no system at all if a star decided to go "Kaboom".
