"Shemale" is usually considered a derogatory term; perhaps a better way of putting it would be male-to-female transsexual? 24.255.163.216 17:48, November 1, 2013 (UTC)

It's my understanding that is a translation, not a choice of words the editor used. I don't necessarily like it either, though. --Fluffy Exterminator {ADMIN}(talkemailcontribs) 18:56, November 4, 2013 (UTC)

People are becoming more interested in this idea and therefore particular quote of late. I wonder what the original Japanese term used was as 'sh*m*le' is widely considered a slur, and if it was intended as such and if it's just a throwaway joke or not. Matsuoka's exact words were "newhalf" (ニューハーフ nyūhāfu?), which is Japanese slang for a trans woman with a penis. I'd guess that "shemale" is fairly accurate in conveying his tone. AmorphousBlob[ADMIN] (talk) 00:13, July 15, 2015 (UTC)

SourceEdit

Can someone cite the specific page, and preferably where exactly in that page the statement that Samus is trans? I tried skimming them but couldnt find it, though I am not literate in Japanese. 50.178.190.180 04:36, July 15, 2015 (UTC)

Right here. Matsuoka's interview is at the bottom, in the center. His statement about Samus' gender follows immediately after the encircled number 6. AmorphousBlob[ADMIN] (talk) 04:45, July 15, 2015 (UTC)

For those who want to discuss the veracity of Sakomoto dismissing the "Samus is Trans" thing, I urge you to check out the following article:

Quoting Question 21: "Question : Any chance Metroid Prime will ever come to PS2?" "Answer: It's about as likely as 'Samus is really newhalf (transgender / hermaphrodite / etc).' Please enjoy it on the Gamecube!" He specifically uses the term NYU-HA-FU, NewHalf, the exact same term that the original blog cites. There we have it, an official source, the director of the original Metroid using that theory as a joke to mean 'Literally Impossible.'

There you have it. -- Jaimas - Edited 09/02/2015, 10:25 AM (EST)

Still a cool headcanon tho HellKaiserryo12[ADMIN] (TalkContribs) 14:47, September 2, 2015 (UTC)
It seems more likely that he means half-woman, half-chozo. Samus did went genetic manipulation so she could live on their planet, and the Chozo themselves could have refered to her as a New Half [Chozo], since she was young and partially one of them. ---- Some fan of Metroid.
