Okay, this is probably going to sound stupid, but do we have a source for this name? They could be spines, needles, spikes, or even something else we aren't thinking of. Dazuro 19:05, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

Um... is there any katana or romaji anywhere? Great Mara 19:15, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

Man, this is ridiculous. Maybe we do need to rethink our Unidentified policy if we have to find a source for this on ultimatum of renaming an entirely ordinary spike to a technical-sounding name. But according to precedent and policy both, no matter how silly it sounds, we need a name for this.

Hopefully a guide somewhere just says "avoid the needles" and bingo, we have a name. Dazuro 19:23, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

Zoomer scan says "spikes." ChozoBoy (Talk/Contribs) 20:47, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

But these aren't always found on Zoomers. And that scan also says "spines." So at best, we have two names of equal use. Dazuro 20:47, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

I just chose the most basic word.

I don't see why we need to make this complicating. Metroid Fan 16:38, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Because we are not to have a single article without an official, from-the-game-or-guide name. That's policy at the moment, no matter how ridiculous it gets. Dazuro 16:39, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

This policy sure makes a mess of things. Metroid Fan 16:41, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Indeed. I'm not sure if I'm trying to make a point or just follow policy any more. It could go either way, really. I mean, it's true, according to policy we can't just say "spike" because it looks like a spike to us. That's also rather ridiculous. But then again... I mean, we can't just call those things in Phendrana a "fish," can we? Even if they look like fish. Lumigeks can't just be "geckos" even though they're nearly identical. Metroid has names and weird aspects of just about everything. The spikes in Super Metroid move after all. Dazuro 16:44, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Maybe because they're activated. ;) There is an area in the Wrecked Ship before fighting Phantoon, where the spikes are not active, and Samus can safely step on them. Anyway, some things are just very basic in name, kind of like Acid or Lava/Magma. Metroid Fan 16:52, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Check the SM guide. ChozoBoy (Talk/Contribs) 17:24, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Fish is a broad generalization, geckos are large in variety, and a spike is a spike. And a spiketrap is a nuisance. Extraxi 17:41, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
