Exterior Docking Hangar[]

We have very little information on what Vortex Outpost actually is. Please allow me to share my theory.

The Exterior Docking Hangar, the first room of the game, is part of a large structure attached to the hull of Frigate Orpheon. If the Frigate were to fly with this structure attached, it wouldn't fly straight because of its asymmetrical shape. Thus, the Orpheon would have to detach the external structure in order to travel through space. Therefore, this structure must be a separate construction that does not belong to the Orpheon.

Tallon IV is part of the same solar system as Zebes, one of the largest Space Pirate bases. It would make sense for the Pirates to construct outposts at neighboring planets to consolidate their position on Zebes.

This leads me to believe that this external structure that includes the Exterior Docking Hangar is, in fact, Vortex Outpost itself. A space station in orbit around Tallon IV, suited to serve as a docking bay for Space Pirate vessels. After the fall of Zebes, Frigate Orpheon fell back to Tallon IV and attached to the Outpost, after which the events of Metroid Prime unfolded.

This is just my personal theory, but I'd like to hear what others think of it.
