Tank Jingle[1] is a short flourish heard when acquiring a Missile, Power Bomb, Beam Ammo, Ship Missile, Universal Ammunition Expansion, Energy or Aeion Tank in the Metroid Prime trilogy and Metroid: Samus Returns. The jingle also plays when Samus Aran collects a Gold Credit from a Red Phaazoid she has killed.
It is much shorter than the Item Acquisition Fanfare heard when acquiring power-ups, with this jingle consisting of the final six notes of that fanfare. Most games use the same version of Tank Jingle, but the version in Metroid Prime Hunters uses different instruments and excludes the flourish's first note. In the core three Prime games, the jingle is accompanied by a percussive beat when acquiring the expansion; this is not present in Samus Returns.
The jingle in most games can be heard here, and the jingle from Metroid Prime Hunters here.
Trivia[]
- Metroid II: Return of Samus used a different expansion jingle that has not returned in any subsequent games, including its remake Samus Returns. This jingle can be heard here.
- The full Item Acquisition Fanfare is used in Metroid Prime when acquiring Power Bomb Expansions. Later games use the Tank Jingle instead.
- In the Gearworks room in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, a Missile Expansion is acquired by Screw Attacking into it in midair. The jingle does not play and the Missile Expansion acquired message does not appear in that instance until Samus reaches the platform on the other side.
- The Samus Aran theme available through MyNintendo plays the Tank Jingle when an app is selected.
