- This article is about the consoles on the BOTTLE SHIP. For other uses, see Terminal (Disambiguation).
Terminals, also called computer consoles,[1] are a standardized control system used on board the BOTTLE SHIP to regulate simple mechanical devices.
Description[]
During the events of Metroid: Other M, Samus makes use of them to unlock doors, extend and retract bridges, and activate other machines. They are similar in function to the Interface Modules encountered in the Metroid Prime trilogy, but rely on a simple keyboard interface instead of directly communicating with Samus's suit computer. Although this feature would allow the Terminals to be conveniently operated by anyone on the BOTTLE SHIP without need of another intermediary computer system, it becomes a detriment to the design in that it requires Samus to approach and physically interact with the Terminal as opposed to being able to scan it from a distance.
It is unknown whether Terminals are used in any other Galactic Federation facilities; starships and ground installations in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption rely on Hand Scanners to activate equipment, while a console with a similar range of functions and a weight-sensitive platform appears on the Biologic Space Laboratories research station in Metroid Fusion.
Terminals cannot be used while charging. Enemies will also refrain from attacking Samus while she is operating a Terminal. If one does start to attack her and she then immediately activates a Terminal, the attack will pass through her without harm.
