"Transport to Artaria" is a room in Hanubia. It appears in Metroid Dread. Although it is not the first room shown in the game, it is one of the first that Samus Aran explores, albeit offscreen.

Description[]

There is a long elevator shaft in the back of this room, leading through Dairon and into Artaria's E.M.M.I. Zone.[1] The elevator is in the background and cannot be used for story reasons (see below). It is first re-entered through a large glass tube with noticeable damage, and sparks flickering from its top. On the left side of the tube, a pile of debris exists in the background, which appears to be the remains of a Chozo Soldier's armor along with five crates. On the right end is an Ammo Recharge Station near the exit. Most of the shaft is without platforms, necessitating use of the Space Jump or Shinespark to ascend it quickly. Near the top of the shaft is a table-shaped structure, with its left base made of Screw Attack Blocks and its center made of Boost Blocks. Its right base is indestructible.

Large structures exist in the background with long cables attached to them. These appear to provide support for the aforementioned upper walkway. During the escape sequence, more of the shaft is revealed as it is accessed from below. It is shown that the room has begun to fall apart, with parts of the wall exploding and a large section of the background wall ripped open, and flames burning through it. All other door exits are locked and the Ammo Recharge Station is no longer usable.

Role[]

Metroid Dread orange Dread Suit

Samus descending into Artaria.

Samus took the elevator to the "Artaria entrance" in the game's prologue. While she is descending, ADAM explains to her over comms that they will need to keep in contact through the local network.

Adam
“That elevator leads to the depths of an underground facility.

Signal quality is likely to be low. Remote communication may pose a problem.

Try to connect to the facility's network when you reach the bottom. That way we can remain in contact.

Any objections, Lady?

However, after exiting the elevator, Raven Beak confronts Samus and destroys the elevator during their battle. This, combined with her loss of the battle and subsequent removal of her abilities forces Samus to make her way upward through the caverns of the planet instead.

Samus goes through this room again when she ultimately returns to Hanubia, with her priority now having changed to finding and defeating Raven Beak. She passes through it a final time while escaping the exploding ZDR.

This room is not seen directly in the opening, as Samus's flashback cuts from a view of the landing Gunship to Samus descending the elevator shaft. It is only properly seen when she reaches Hanubia via the shuttle from Ghavoran, and even then, the presence of a damaged glass tube reminiscent of ones on Zebes forces her to proceed to the area's Network Station instead of ascending this room at first.

Once she has manifested her Metroid powers and used them to defeat both E.M.M.I.-07PB and a red Chozo Soldier, ADAM declares that "[t]his tremendous power is the last thing [she] required to confront Raven Beak", and Samus uses her newly acquired Power Bomb to break open the glass tube. The Ammo Recharge Station can be used to refill Power Bomb Ammo beforehand if necessary. Proceeding upward, Samus finds two Quetshockers and the entrance to the Artaria elevator again, although it remains unusable. To the left of the elevator is a Hyper Beam Door that prevents Samus from accessing her Gunship, while the path to the right leads to the Elite Chozo Soldier and the Transport Capsule to Itorash.

After Samus has crashed Itorash and defeated Raven Beak X, a countdown begins and she runs into this room through a lower passage at the base of the shaft. It is possible to Shinespark up the shaft; doing so causes the camera to zoom in on Samus, one of the few instances in the game where this occurs. The room is now collapsing with several sections on fire, and while the Quetshockers are gone, the X Parasites have spawned several other enemies including Quetzoas, a Takumaku, a Yampa and a Dropter in an attempt to stop Samus. She melts the large door with her new Hyper Beam and proceeds to her ship, in which she flies off ZDR before the planet explodes.
