Troopers are a melee variety of Space Pirate in Metroid Prime: Federation Force.
Description[]
Through the use of the amplification beam, the Space Pirates have artificially increased themselves to abnormal sizes, and Troopers are no exception in the Bermuda System. While not as common as the standard Pirate, they are a common enemy in Federation Force. Like most Pirates, they have a design similar to the Pirate Troopers seen in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, but with exaggerated proportions due to the game's super-deformed art style.
Unlike standard Pirates (as well as the Pirate Troopers in previous games in the Metroid Prime series), the Troopers faced in the Bermuda System specialize in melee combat. Instead of the standard combination of Galvanic Accelerator Cannon and Scythe, they dual-wield large swords attached to their wrists. While this robs them of ranged attacks, it makes them much more dangerous at close range.
Variations[]
Elite Troopers are stronger variants of normal Troopers encountered in Federation Force. In comparison with standard Troopers, these Elite Troopers are plated with gold armor and wield larger violet swords.
The Cloaked Troopers in the same game appear identical to Elite Troopers, but possess cloaking technology that allows them to turn invisible.
Development notes[]
In the Federation Force Treehouse pre-release footage of M10: Black Hole, Troopers were called Melee Troopers.[1]
