The Universe Trailer is a 1 minute and 40 seconds long trailer for Metroid: Samus Returns, released on November 22, 2017, more than two months after the game's worldwide release. This trailer gives information on the history of Samus Aran and her missions for the Galactic Federation. The Universe Trailer is one of two "modules" released that day, alongside the SR388 Data File.

At the beginning of the trailer, a female narrator states that the second module is being decrypted, while the first module is online. The "decryption" process can be seen increasing incrementally during the trailer, from 15%, to 25%, 50% and finally 90%. The decryption is "finished" at the end of the trailer, and the SR388 Data File can then be viewed.

In addition to clips from Samus Returns, the trailer also features gameplay clips interspersed from Metroid: Zero Mission, and, despite them taking place after Samus Returns, Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. The logo of the respective game being shown is displayed in the bottom right corner. No acknowledgement of Samus's missions during the Prime series (set before Samus Returns) or Metroid: Other M (set after) is made in the trailer.

The Theme of Samus and Upper Brinstar themes can be heard in the trailer, which ends with the Title theme. Additionally, some snippets of music and sounds from the four games can occasionally be heard when clips of them are on-screen.

“	First module online. Second module decryption commencing. In the year 20X5 of the Cosmic Calendar, Space Pirates, led by the monstrous Mother Brain, terrorized anyone caught in their sights. Their most infamous capture, a dangerous life-form known as a Metroid, has the power to lead the universe down a dark path. In a desperate plea, the citizens of the Federation placed their hopes in one warrior: Samus Aran. A Bounty Hunter by trade, Samus Aran is celebrated for her strength, courage, and ability to quickly accomplish even the most challenging missions. Beyond her achievements, Samus is known for her mysterious Power Suit, forged by the secretive Chozo race. Specializing in missions others would balk at, Samus prefers to work alone, facing the toughest adversaries within hostile environments. A quick thinker by nature, she excels at searching old ruins, overcoming unexpected obstacles and, when necessary, taming the local wildlife. The mission that made her a legend was to infiltrate the Space Pirate installation on the planet Zebes. Tearing through the planet, she destroyed the Space Pirate leader Mother Brain, and by extension the base itself. In the process, she encountered the floating organisms classified as Metroids.
