Welcome![edit source]

PurpleSamurai5.0, welcome!

Hello and let me be the first to welcome you to Wikitroid, the fan-based Metroid resource. I hope you like the place and choose to join us in our work. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

If you'd like to connect with the community, please check out our Discord server, our IRC channel, and our Mailing lists!

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikitroid member! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, ask me on my talk page. Happy editing! — Dr. Anonymous1 (talk) 00:24, April 2, 2020 (UTC)

Double check image resolution[edit source]

Hey, just letting you know to double check image resolution when you're uploading a new version of an image if it's the same frame. You've had to revert one of your own and I've had to do the same to another. Thanks! --Madax the Shadow {ADMIN} (talklogscontribs) 02:01, April 2, 2020 (UTC)

Previewing edits[edit source]

I've noticed that you tend to make a lot of edits in short succession to a single page as you try working out bugs and kinks in the code. It's useful if you use the "preview" button (to the right of the editor, just above the "publish" button) to check your work, so that way you can spot any errors before saving the edit. Hope this helps! --PeabodySam (talk) 15:34, April 13, 2020 (UTC)

Image Licensing[edit source]

Hey there, after checking in on your uploads, it seems like you've forgotten to add licensing to the images you've uploaded. As per our image policy, all files uploaded to Wikitroid must have the proper license template included on their file page. In the case of media owned by Nintendo, the {{fairuse}} license is required. You can apply the template during the upload process either by using the provided dropdown menu or the template syntax. You can view the list of your uploads here. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. --Madax the Shadow {ADMIN} (talklogscontribs) 21:22, April 13, 2020 (UTC)

Re: Help[edit source]

Hey there! Most rooms outside of the Prime series aren't named in games or associated media, so you'll usually have to resort to popular fan names or coming up with a descriptive one yourself. If you do have to make one, keep a couple points in mind:

  • They should be conventional nouns, not proper. You're making a descriptor, so only proper nouns used in the name should be capital (e.g., "Main Deck west wing stairwell")
  • The name should be unique and easily identifiable, either for describing key points in the room itself or indicating its position/context in the area.

Good luck! --Madax the Shadow {ADMIN} (talklogscontribs) 15:39, April 16, 2020 (UTC)

The SMILE captures you've been uploading[edit source]

They're great, but you should probably be uploading room captures without the tiles highlighted as well. I would assume you can take such captures in SMILE, though I admit I've never used SMILE and I don't know how it works. RoyboyX(complaints/records) 04:45, May 4, 2020 (UTC)

Signature[edit source]

Hello, your current signature has an open-ended span tag, an unused sub tag, and an open-ended noinclude tag. These can break pages they're used on, noinclude in particular. Please use the fixed code below.

Duplicate images[edit source]

Hello, we've looked into your recent uploads of the developer renders and have found most if not all of them to be duplicates already present on the wiki (compare this existing image found on Combat Hall with yours). Please note the following on our image policy:

  • Make sure that you are not uploading a duplicate file. Note that the filename and extension are case sensitive, so uploading a file called "Phazon.JPG" will not overwrite "Phazon.jpg"
  • Use a descriptive file name. Bad file names include "IMG019272.jpg" and "Metroid Prime 3.jpg". Good file names for these could be "Phaaze (viewed from space).jpg" and "Metroid Prime 3 Box Art.jpg". Administrators can rename files as necessary.

Wikitroid currently has 18,605 images; to keep the clutter down as much as possible, please double check to ensure you are not uploading a duplicate file that will have to be deleted. Also, please use a file name such that a human would be able to understand what the image is. --Madax the Shadow {ADMIN} (talklogscontribs) 21:24, May 6, 2020 (UTC)

Metroid Recon maps[edit source]

Hey there, the maps by Falcon Zero were created for Metroid Recon. Special notes about that are 1) they are inherently fanart and cannot be used on main namespace articles and 2) you would need expressly written permission from Falcon Zero to use them here. --Madax the Shadow {ADMIN} (talklogscontribs) 21:47, June 10, 2020 (UTC)

EDIT: In the future, before you take on projects that involve uploading massive amounts of images that come from other sites, please check in with an admin. I also highly recommend you go over our policies.

Patroller request[edit source]

Your patroller request has been declined at this time. Your account with our wiki is still too young for the minimum requirement of three months. Granted, that deadline is only days away but it exists for a reason. You have still had recent policy infractions, so there's still room to learn and grow in the community. Please give yourself another month or so before requesting again, taking that time to learn how the wiki runs and the expectations for what you're requesting. You are more than welcome to leave any questions or concerns on my talk page. --Madax the Shadow {ADMIN} (talklogscontribs) 18:34, June 28, 2020 (UTC)

There was only those two from what I can recall, though we're also looking into the images from Metroid wiki. Besides that, I don't have anything in particular for you to look at. The minimum wait time is two weeks if you're confident about being familiar with the policies and such; the one month is to give a better buffer. --Madax the Shadow {ADMIN} (talklogscontribs) 21:11, July 4, 2020 (UTC)
What is wrong with the Metroid Wiki images? Aren't they just free to use game models? I even edited the background of some of them to be transparent. PurpleSamurai5.0 01:18, July 4, 2020 (UTC)
We're just looking into them for now. --Madax the Shadow {ADMIN} (talklogscontribs) 03:21, July 5, 2020 (UTC)

Big Metroid's room[edit source]

When you get a chance, it'd be great if you could get some SMILE captures for Big Metroid's room. I try to use VGMaps when possible, but they had Bomb icons over the barnacle material and I wasn't thrilled about it. RoyboyX(complaints/records) 03:41, July 11, 2020 (UTC)

Done! PurpleSamurai5.0 00:38, July 12, 2020 (UTC)
The Landing Site could also use a capture (not one with the highlighted tiles, which it already has). RoyboyX(complaints/records) 19:57, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
