Ventilation caps or ventilation covers are installed throughout the Frigate Orpheon in Metroid Prime. They cover ventilation shafts, but are supported by very unstable coils. During the countdown, they frequently explode, providing Samus alternate exits as she rushes to escape the Orpheon before it crashes into Tallon IV. They explode if Samus approaches them, occasionally on a delay (see below).
Ventilation caps appear in Biotech Research Area 1, Deck Beta Transit Hall, Cargo Freight Lift to Deck Gamma, Subventilation Shaft Section B, and Main Ventilation Shaft Section A. They are also present on the Sidehopper Station stage in the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Multiplayer, which is modeled after the Frigate Orpheon, but they do not explode.
Development notes[]
Like doors, ventilation caps act as hidden loading screens, and will explode when the room on the other side of it loads.[1]
