Visor cutscene glitch

A glitch occurs in Metroid Prime when obtaining a Visor while wearing the Fusion version of the Power Suit, a situation typically only possible after Sequence Breaking or using a cheat device such as an Action Replay. This issue exists across all known versions of the game, except for Metroid Prime Remastered, which lacks Fusion suits entirely.

In the cutscene, the Samus model is a heavily distorted mess of vertices, with only the Arm Cannon remaining intact due to it being a separate model. The botched arm presses Samus' visor as normal and the Visor flashes, making the sound of the respective Visor (Thermal or X-Ray). Worthy of note is that Samus' face is present on the outside of the model. This glitch occurs only if the Fusion Suit is enabled, and Samus is in her base Power Suit rather than the Varia or Gravity Suit. The cause of this glitch is an issue with the character file used for Samus' visor acquisition animation; although the Fusion Power Suit has the correct animation skeleton and 3D model, it incorrectly uses the rigging data for the standard Power Suit, resulting in the animations being applied improperly to the model. This bug was likely never discovered or addressed by Retro Studios since it cannot occur in normal play.
