The Vulkran[1] is a species found on ZDR in Metroid Dread.

Description[]

A Vulkran is a small wall-crawling creature in Cataris. It can be found burrowed in rock surfaces, with only the tip of its shell visible. The creature emerges when Samus Aran approaches and then crawls along walls, floors and ceilings. It stores magma in its body and, when it feels threatened, it spits out its magma in multiple small globules from the shell on its back. The randomized scattershot-like nature of the projectiles make them hard to avoid, similar to Polyps in the Family Computer Disk System version of Metroid. Therefore, the safest way for Samus to take out Vulkrans is from a distance.

Vulkrans are an egg-laying species. Clusters of Vulkran eggs[2] can be found in the background throughout Cataris, especially in volcanic caverns. These pod-shaped eggs have a texture resembling layers of black volcanic rock with yellow edges, extending outward from a bright glowing yellow segment.

After the release of the X Parasites from Elun, all Vulkrans become infected by the X. Furthermore, the X combine the rock-like skin and magma-spitting abilities of the Vulkran with the form of a Muzby to create the Bigkran-X, which can be found in Artaria, Cataris, and Ghavoran.

Metroid Dread Report Volume 8[]

"This small creature can stick to and move across floors, walls, and ceilings. It stores magma in its body and spits it out when it detects danger. It spits out multiple magma shots, which can be difficult to avoid. It may be most effective to blast it from afar before it goes on the offensive."
