| ! | This is a rare creature/object. It may only be scanned in one or few encounters. |
Weblings appear only once in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, in the Feeding Pit Access in the Dark Agon Wastes on Dark Aether. There are two that block the path, and can be killed with the Light Beam. Once destroyed, these Darklings are never seen again, making their Logbook entry critical to obtain.
Though the Logbook entry states that enemies can be caught in the Webling, Samus cannot become entangled. In fact, the Webling does no damage to her at all, acting simply as a wall or barricade. The Webling pair along with their room also appear in the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus Disc under the name Dark Webbing; however, the scan instead describes them as webbing energized by dark energy, acting as dark counterparts to webbing (as the name implies).
Curiously, the Weblings are identical in structure to the objects called Luminoth Webbing, with the only differences being the latter's white-colored webs, their lack of red glowing lights, and a green-tinted shell located on their centers instead of an eyeball. Their similarities suggest that a Webling is a Luminoth Webbing under the control of an Ing. Supporting this is the Webling's Logbook entry, which describes it as a Darkling, a term often used for Ing-possessed beings. However, no connection between the Webling and its supposed light counterpart is ever mentioned in any scans related to them. The Ing Webtrap appears as a smaller indestructible version of the Webling.

Logbook entry[]
Webling
Darkling capable of generating and energizing tensile biomaterial.
Creature is immobile and immune to most weapons. The Light Beam will be able to disrupt and destroy target.
Development Data[]
Dark Webbing seen in the Logbook of the Bonus Disc.
The Webling's internal name is Dark Webbing. This name is used in the demo of the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus Disc, where Dark Webbing can be scanned during gameplay. An onscreen message also states the name as Dark webbing (lowercase W). Dark Webbing behaves identical to the Webling from the final game, its role also being equally identical, with two appearing in the same hallway in both games.
An unused Logbook entry is present within the Bonus Disc. Interestingly, there is no entry text written for the Dark Webbing. It shares this trait with its neighboring Biology subject, the Luminoth Webbing.

Trivia[]
- Ing usually require their hosts to be either organic or artificial beings in order to be candidates for Darkling conversion. If the Webling is indeed the result of an Ing possessing a Luminoth Webbing, it makes the Webling an entirely unique Darkling, due to the fact that the latter is simply an inanimate object.
- The texture of the Webling's eye is reused from the Eyon enemy in Metroid Prime.
