The Xenoresearch Lab is a room on the G.F.S. Valhalla. It appears in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
Description[]
This room consists two floors; a top floor where Samus enters the room from and a bottom floor housing generator equipment. The entirety of the room contains various debris throughout, some of which can be shot with heavy weaponry. A single Atomic and two Phazon Hoppers are seen patrolling the central chamber. When Samus shoots the damaged gate blocking access to the center, the Phazon Hoppers will jump up from the bottom area of the room and attack Samus. Once Samus defeats these Phazon Hoppers, two more enter from the ceiling above. Samus can move to the bottom of this room and find that the power generator is offline. Samus can use her Grapple Lasso to reveal two Energy Cell Stations concealed behind panels on the offline generator, though the panels will cause minor damage if they are flung directly toward her location. If Samus places two Energy Cells inside this generator, a Ship Missile Expansion will be revealed inside a Morph Ball tunnel leading toward a ventilation shaft. Opening this tunnel causes air pressure to flow inward to the tunnel, forcefully pushing the expansion deep inside the shaft. Samus must "chase" this expansion through the Ventilation Shaft and then finally catch it in MedLab Alpha, where she then escapes through Security Access. Two Fuse Hint Scanbots are present in the room. A Federation Marine corpse is found inside the tunnel, which can be scanned through the transparent glass floor.
On return visits after the Energy Cell Stations have been used, three Phazon Metroids will patrol the room. If Samus hugs the area near the door, these Phazon Metroids will ignore her until provoked by weapons fire. These Phazon Metroids generally encircle around certain areas within this room, with one such Phazon Metroid casually phasing through a wall along its set path.
This room's Olympus counterpart is the similarly named Xenoresearch Lab. The Valhalla version of the room contains a large crash at the end of the top hall, blocking access to where a doorway may have been stationed at.
Connecting rooms[]
- Port Observation Deck (via Galactic Federation Blue Door)
- Ventilation Shaft (via Morph Ball tunnel)

Initial visits[]
- 4 Phazon Hoppers (two are fought at a time)
- 1 Atomic
After two Energy Cell Stations have been used[]

Scans[]
- Power conduit
- "System analysis complete. Power conduit is not energized. Flow capacity at zero."
- Security shutter
- "Security shutter's structural integrity is at critical. An explosive blast could probably destroy it."
- Security shutter (2)
- "Security shutter is locked. Target appears damaged but is still sturdy enough to function."
- Energy generator (missing both cells)
- "Energy generator offline. Multiple power sources are needed to restore normal operations."
- Energy generator (missing one cell)
- "Energy generator offline. One remaining power source is needed to restore operations."
- Energy generator
- "Energy generator online. Power sources locked in place. Output capacity at 100%."
- Panel
- "Paneling is sealed shut. It could probably be torn off if pulled with enough force."
- Federation Marine
- "Target is deceased. Scans determine asphyxiation to be the cause of death."
- Olympus-Class Battleship (present only if not scanned in Security Station)
- "The Olympus-Class battleship is the first Federation capital ship designed to use an onboard Aurora Unit. They are the flagships of the fleets they serve in, usually commanded by an officer of flag rank. Battleships of this class have smaller crews than most ships of a similar size to due the presences of the Aurora Unit. The space saved in crew support is used for more battle systems. The enormous vessels are powered by Fuel Gel, making the scarce commodity of extreme value to the Federation military."
Development notes[]
This room's internal name is 03_abandoned_endocoon, named after its G.F.S. Olympus counterpart 04_gfship_endocoonlab (Xenoresearch Lab) which has a similar layout and location on the ship. The keyword abandoned indicates the G.F.S. Valhalla, and the prefix 03 indicates that this is the third of five main rooms on the G.F.S. Valhalla.
Trivia[]

- If Samus lures the Atomic close to her while being pursued by a Phazon Hopper, when a Phazon Hopper fires its projectile blast at her, the blast may reflect off the Atomic if the latter is struck by it.
- If Samus somehow enters this room backwards without using both Energy Cell Stations, the Ship Missile Expansion will appear solid and cannot be obtained.
